Please note: the four workshops are designed as a whole but can be taken individually. Please bring a contemporary text with which you are familiar.

WORKSHOP 1 – STYLE

SATURDAY 3 OCTOBER 10.00 – 17.00

How is dramatic speech different to other styles of speaking? What tools can we use to express thoughts in our speech and sharpen our speaking for the stage and screen?

WORKSHOP 2: SOUNDS

SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER, 10.00 – 17.00

Exploring consonants and their impact on a character and how vowels can give greater authenticity to our speech and a character’s emotions.

WORKSHOP 3: GESTURES

SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER, 10.00 – 17.00

The six speech gestures: practical tools using the body to transform your voice.

WORKSHOP 4: LAYERING

SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER 10.00 – 17.00

Layering style, sounds and gestures in working with participants’ individual contemporary texts.

Sarah Kane has been teaching, performing and directing using both Chekhov’s technique for acting and Steiner’s approach to speech. She has taught and directed regularly in Germany, Spain, France, the USA, China and India. She currently runs regular classes at Rudolf Steiner House in central London.
