Meeting Pain through Art, Celebrating Creativity

Storytelling, Poetry, Painting and Mindfulness

A day of artistic workshops, sharing and conversation

The workshops will be interwoven throughout the day, with opportunities to move between poetry, mindfulness and painting, alongside time for sharing, reflection and conversation. The day will unfold gently, allowing the different creative practices to inform and enrich one another.

Exploring Speaking Poetry with Melody Grove, who trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, where she won the James Bridie Gold Medal for Acting. Olivier nominated for her role of Queen Isabella with Mark Rylance and Iestyn Davies in "Farinelli and the King",  Melody brings generosity, depth and kindness to her art form. She knows the pain of spinal injury, and how uplifting working through the spoken word and gentle movement can be. Please bring a beloved poem or quotes by Frida Kahlo to work with.

Mindfulness with Tamzin Muir, a former lawyer, mindfulness teacher and leadership coach who has spent many years exploring how our relationship with thoughts, emotions and physical sensations shapes our experience. Bringing warmth, humour and a grounding in neuroscience, she will explore how mindfulness can help us relate to pain with more awareness, kindness and ease.

Painting with Ilona Pimbert, who studied at Chelsea and St Martins School of Art and has been painting and printmaking regularly at Artichoke Print Workshop in London. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2026. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s relationship with painting as an extension of everyday life - a space to create beauty, freedom and another world amidst pain - Ilona will invite participants to explore painting as a way of connecting with colour, creativity and their own inner worlds.
