Spiritual Impulses in the Art of Raphael. Raphael lived when Italy was torn asunder by internal wars and periodically invaded by foreign powers. His paintings only occasionally represent the horror around him. Instead they radiate serenity, a mysterious subtle beauty and great healing power. We will try to understand how this all comes to expression, focusing on his works up to The School of Athens.
