Nine Lectures (lectures 6 to 14) from Old and New Methods of Initiation and two lectures containing Goethe’s Secret Revelations about The Fairy Tale of the Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily (from October 1908 in Berlin).
Tuesday 12 April 7pm - 8.30pm

We will begin with the nine later lectures given in Dornach in February and March 1922, which contrast ancient and modern approaches to initiation. They examine the transition that took place from the early 15th century in the post-Atlantean cultural epochs, looking in particular at the influence that Shakespeare, Schiller and Goethe had on that transition, including the impulse to freedom represented by Schiller’s letters on Aesthetic Education and by Goethe’s Faust. We will finish with two wonderful lectures about Goethe’s fairy tale. The first is subtitled ‘exoteric’ and contains a great exposition of the plot. The second is subtitled ‘esoteric’. We learn that Goethe’s intention with the fairy tale was to represent Schiller’s letters on Aesthetic Education non-intellectually.
