During this ONLINE WEEKEND WORKSHOP we will explore, through myth, our connection to Nature and where disrespect and insatiable desire might lead us; guided by Stella Kassimati and Giovanna Conforto.
The summer solstice is a good time to celebrate Nature and feast in her glory and beauty. It is also the tipping point, where days in the northern hemisphere start getting shorter and nights longer. Nature also has her tipping points and we are possibly teetering on the edge of one right now as we contemplate what is happening to our beautiful planet. This weekend we will explore, through the Greek myth of Erysichthon, which was centuries later retold by Ovid, our connection to Nature and where disrespect and insatiable desire might lead us. More than 3,000 years ago Erysichthon violated the laws of Nature by cutting down the sacred tree of the Goddess. Today, this story is even more relevant as we grapple with the future of not just the trees but the entire earth. Just when is enough, enough? Join Giovanna and Stella, supported by their Latin and Greek roots, for a safe and playful exploration of the teachings and warnings of this ancient myth. No previous knowledge of myths or storytelling is required.Stella Kassimati
Stella Kassimati teaches around the world in both Greek and English.In following her passion, she is carrying a stream of Greek Mythology at the School of Storytelling, Emerson College. People interested in Greek Myths, will be able to follow the energies of gods and goddesses and many major myths that have influenced and shaped our western culture and civilization and are relevant to us today. Stella is the founding Director of Friends of Amari, an international association contributing to the revival of the Valley and Village of Amari, her ancestral home in Crete.
Giovanna Conforto
Giovanna Conforto is the creative director of the Italian Storytelling Centre,a creative associate with Lignin Stories (Malta) and founding member ofStories in Place International Network. She has participated in events and festivals all over Europe, North America and Asia. Giovanna's main interest is in how to bring storytelling to creatively acquire, elaborate and convey content creating connections and building bridges. Her storytelling applies to many areas: Communication of science, communities, territories and art, education, social work, business, healthcare, interfaith dialogue and self-development. Among her collaborations the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok and the Global Science Opera. She continues to participate as researcher in various projects on Landscape narratives and Science teaching and communication. She is co-author of the ScienceTheatre European guidelines for the creative teaching of science. Giovanna tells and facilitates in Italian, French and English.
