International pianist Louis Demetrius Alvanis performs a programme of popular favourites ranging from baroque and classical through to romantic composers. The programme features Bach's radiant Partita in B flat, Beethoven's tumultous "Appassionata" Sonata, Schumann's graceful Arabeske in C and concludes with two works by Liszt; the atmospheric Nuages gris and a display of virtuoso pyrotechnics with the Mephisto Waltz No.1 in A.

I have never been to a solo piano recital before and I am not certain of the protocol for clapping - what is the general practice in this connection? It is usual to clap at the end of each piece. Where a piece comprises a number of different movements these are numbered on the programme and it is customary to clap at the end of the piece. If in doubt as to when to clap just follow the other audience members and you should soon feel at ease!

Since his highly acclaimed Royal Festival Hall concerto debut before a capacity audience, London-born pianist LOUIS DEMETRIUS ALVANIS has established an international career and a reputation as a musician of outstanding brilliance and sensitivity, performing in Europe, the USA, the Far East and throughout the UK; in London he has played solo recitals in the major concert halls such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Fairfield Halls, St Johns Smith Square, Wigmore Hall and Barbican Hall.
