The Enduring Appeal of Parzival’s Journey

Friday 9 May 7.30pm - 9pm

with Robin Cook

Robin will offer us insights into the story of Parzival’s journey from his over protected childhood, through his many challenges toreaching maturity and achieving his goal. The story has stood the test of timeand forms a vital part of the upper school Steiner Waldolf curriculum - but it's not just for teenagers in class 11, who are often gripped with it. The classic tale has much to teach us - maybe we can each see ourselves and partsof our own biography in it?

Robins mother ran a group in Edinburgh, inviting wellknown Anthroposophists to participate. As a child he listened politely, and when he started teaching in a prep school in Surrey realised that the educationoffered was not suited to many of the children. He returned to university to doa PGCE, writing a dissertation on Steiner’s philosophy and education and thenspent almost 40 years teaching in a Steiner Waldolf school, bringing ‘parzeval’ alive for classes of teenagers. His book offers an excellent introduction tothe Story and is available in Rudolf Steiner House book shop. (The Legend ofParzival - The Epic Story of his Quest for the Grail.
