This lecture is a further contribution to the Friday series on Rudolf Steiner’s Sculpture. Again and again we have considered The Representative of Humanity in the context of its intended place in the Goetheanum. The reality is that it never was and never will be in its intended “home” - what is it waiting to reveal and inspire in its present “homelessness”?  In commemoration of Rudolf Steiner’s death day, and in preparation for Easter, Andrew will explore the theme of Redemption. As we have seen, this came to expression in the pastel sketch for the ceiling, differently then in the actual painting on the ceiling above where the sculpture was intended to stand, differently again in the carved glass of the North Rose window, but also undeniably in the wooden sculpture itself. The terms “statue” and “sculpture” seem inadequate. What is the reality of its being, destiny, and potential now?
