In these seven lectures from Autumn 1916 Rudolf Steiner talks about the repeated attempts in evolution by the adversarial forces of Lucifer and Ahriman to divert humanity from a positive path. Steiner speaks of the disappointments that the backward forces experienced about their failures to entrap humanity in Atlantean times; of Lucifer and Ahriman’s respective setbacks in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire; and how in our current era, the adversaries have nevertheless re-doubled their onslaughts. By Lucifer this has been manifest in the east in Asia behind Genghis Khan, and by Ahriman in the west behind the Mexican Mysteries; with eff ects, in both cases, that have rebounded on Europe.
