The Musical Nature of ‘Matter’ (Zoom)

Friday 10 February 7pm - 8.30pm

with Howard Smith

Rudolf Steiner tells us that before Anthroposophy could come into the world, spectral analysis had to be developed. This gives insight into the nature of matter. Today’s ‘Periodic Table of the Elements’ is the result of much research (including spectral analysis) which began in the late 18th Century, and was possibly influenced by Goethe. The Table reveals a remarkable record of the evolution of the earth, as Steiner described, through Saturn, Sun and Moon stages. This evolution happened in rhythmic stages, which are reflected in the rhythmic structure of the Periodic Table, showing the musical nature of creation, with octaves, thirds, rests etc.

Howard is a life-long student of Anthroposophy. He has a PhD in Chemistry and worked as a researcher into the properties of water and as a science teacher. He founded the Science Group of the Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain and now works as a piano technical specialist.
