Franz Kafka and the karma of initiation (Zoom)
Friday 23 February 7pm - 8.30pm
with Douglas Miller
The writings of Czech author Franz Kafka (1883–1924) found their way around the world during the 20th century and still
present a challenge to the reader in our own time. In his works Kafka knocks at the door of an esoteric knowledge that could result in initiation, although that door largely remains closed. We will consider examples of this experience based on a few short texts from his works and also on Kafka’s personal karma with anthroposophy and with Rudolf Steiner.
Douglas is a retired professor of German at the University of Michigan–Flint in the United States; his research, publication, and lecturing has focused on Goethe’s accomplishments as a scientist and writer, as well as on the history and meaning of Rudolf Steiner and anthroposophy.
